August Rain | Slow Living

by aseasonalabode Leave a Comment

Last night I sat on the front porch as an summer storm swept across the sky. The clouds billowed up each racing for the lead, circling one another as the thunder rumbled across the expanse. The pitter patter of the steady rain warmed my heart. Rain. We had been praying for rain and the Almighty answered with overflowing abundance.

“Marvelous are Thy works and that my soul knows right well. ” Psalm 119

Now as a new day dawns I think back on all the rain so abundantly given. I can not cause one drop of rain to fall or create one seed bearing fruit, but the Almighty can.

Isaiah 45:8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.

Not only does He promise earthly showers but heavenly ones as well. Skies pouring down with righteousness giving live to any needy sinner. What a wonder.

The midsummer days of August are upon us. There is a definite change in the air. The grasshoppers have begun to fill the air with their songs and the dew drops cover the morning. The parched red maples show the first signs of colour and the occasional golden rod is seen here and there. Much time is spent in the garden and kitchen harvesting and preserving food for the winter ahead.

The task of preserving can at times feel tiring and mundane but come winter time it is so rewarding to open a jar of preserves. The taste of summer fills your mouth and all those hours spent in the steaming hot kitchen become worth it.

” The real things haven’t changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have; to be happy with simple pleasures; and have courage when things go wrong.” Laura Ingalls Wilder
