Letters from the Homestead | August

by aseasonalabode Leave a Comment

Well hello there friend,

I have so been enjoying my quiet summer at home. The break from homeschooling has given me the opportunity to catch up and pursue those interests that so easily get set aside when the schedule fills up. I have begun to add watercolour sketches into the journal where I keep the past letters that I have written to you. It’s been a peaceful way to pass the pockets of quiet in the late afternoons.

How has your summer been going? I do hope that you have had some time to perhaps cultivate that artistic talent you once pursued again. So often we quickly set aside the hobbies that we enjoy for our fast and harried schedules.

The meadow is so beautiful on an August morning. The dew drops coat each stem as the Queen Anne’s lace gently sway in the breeze. The spiders nightly craftmanship is on display as the sun shines onto each strand laced in water droplets. The day will no doubt be oppressively hot but right now in the quiet of the day; it’s still- oh so still.

It reminds me of the hymn based on Psalm 46; Be still my soul

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.

Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.

Leave to thy God to order and provide;

In every change, He faithful will remain.

letter from the homestead

Between the regular chores of homemaking, gardening and preserving I’ve been trying to enjoy these last few days of summer doing things that I have set aside in my business. The other day I went to the fabric store and bought a rich colour yarn that I hope to make into a coverlet for the end of my bed. My violin that has been collecting dust up on its hook has been taken down as I enjoy a new book of melodies. My cell phone has been put on silent and placed far away and I strive with the Lord’s help to nurture real life relationships rather than staying plugged in and online.
