Well hello there friend,
It’s been some time since I have written to you. I do apologize for not writing you a September letter, but I can assure you that it was a month filled with large, fluffy, white clouds and golden warm days. Not much happened on our homestead as we took some time away and travelled to the sea side. We climbed mountains, watched eagles soar, and felt the power of the waves.

Upon returning home it was back to the books and routine again for us. Before I knew the rich, harvest, October days arrived. The maples are covering the forests in splendor and the crispness of fall greets us in the mornings. The wool sweaters and tea pot are like old friends returning for a visit as the days grow shorter and shorter. Each week I make it a habit to get out and hike in God’s beautiful creation as there is no weather like October weather.
Garden cleanup has begun and I’ve been topping off the no dig beds with mulch. Much to my delight a large project that I have been saving up for, for the past three years has moved from the dusty pages of my garden journal into real life. My potager has been designed and re-designed at least a dozen times. So to see the perimeter of the fence take shape is so exciting to me. I hope to share more of the progress of this place with you in the future as this garden begins to take its shape.

Brad, my husband, recently gave me the go ahead to use his tools. I’ve been spending my spare hours cutting out each picket individually. It’s quite the task, but I’ll definitely appreciate the picket fence more in the end.
I do so hope that you are enjoying the beautiful days of autumn as well and that you make some time to get outside and see God’s beautiful creation.
I leave you with this quote from Elizabeth George Speare:
After the keen still days of September the October sun filled the world with a mellow warmth. The maple tree in front of the doorstep burned like a gigantic red torch. The oaks along the roadway glowed yellow and bronze. The field stretched like a carpet of jewels; emerald and topaz and garnet. Everywhere she walked the color shouted and sang around her. In October any wonderful, unexpected thing might be possible.”….
